An American nursery rhyme whose words were first published by Sarah Josepha Hale in 1830. The melody moves step by step between just four notes, which makes it ideal for practising a steady hand position.
Composer: Traditional (words by Sarah Josepha Hale, 1830). Level: Beginner.
Practice tips
- Learn one line at a time. Repeat it until it feels easy, then add the next.
- Keep your hand still over the keys and let your fingers do the moving.
- Once you know the notes, press Listen again and play along with the rhythm.
- Hold Space for the sustain pedal to make the melody sing — release it between phrases so the notes don't blur.
